Sunday Morning Sermon
Living in Resistance to Empire is the focus of this Sunday’s sermon. New Testament Christians knew something about empire which we can learn from. Our forbearers in the faith may be able to help us know how to live with the trinity of harms in this country since colonial times and in the intervening years. What prophetic tasks might we undertake to come to terms with this legacy? Are there examples of courageous faithful actions we can learn from to address the harms done?
Monday Evening Workshop Presentation, 7 pm
Building on the Sunday sermon, we will look at several significant events in American history including the Louisiana Purchase and Trails of Death, and how we acknowledge harm done. We will examine redlining, established in the 1930s, and its legacy in the racial wealth gap. We will hear a reparative example of how to hold banks accountable for doing what they are required to do: make credit, capital, and financial resources accessible to all. There will be time for conversation about the issues of harm done and what can be done in response.
