A Liturgy for Pride Month, written by Cassidhe Hart
O Lord, our Lord,
How majestic is your name in all the Earth!
You have designed a world that queers our expectations,
and we stand in wonder.
For the male seahorses who give birth,
we offer our wonder and our gratitude.Â
For the mussels who change their sex,Â
again and again,
to meet the ecosystem's needs,
we offer our wonder and our gratitude.Â
For female snakes who can reproduce entirely on their own,
we offer our wonder and our gratitude.Â
For the mushroom species that have tens of thousands of genetic sexes,
we offer our wonder and our gratitude.Â
For the lions who live in a pride together and collectively raise their young,
we offer our wonder and our gratitude.Â
For the caterpillars that completely dissolve,
transform their bodies,
and emerge as something entirely new,
we offer our wonder and our gratitude.Â
For the cottonwood trees with both male and female parts,
we offer our wonder and our gratitude.Â
For the majority of bees we call female who do not take part in any kind of reproduction,
we offer our wonder and our gratitude.Â
For a world that defies our attempts to contain and categorize,
we offer our wonder and our gratitude.Â
Forgive us when we assume reality fits into our own understanding.
Forgive us.
Forgive us when we seek to limit the experiences of your beloved children.
Forgive us.
Grow in us an expansive sense of celebration,
and empower all creation
to magnify your name in all the Earth.
