Prayer for Wildfire Smoke

For the plants, people and animals that live where the fires burn:

Lord, have mercy.

For the people will illnesses and chronic conditions made worse by this smoke:

Lord, have mercy.

For the unhoused and for others with no safe place to get clean air:

Lord, have mercy.

For those fighting the fires at the source and risking life and wellbeing:

Lord, have mercy.

For the scientists and activists who are overwhelmed and discouraged:

Lord, have mercy.

For the fear and anxiety about the climate that claws its way into our consciousness at moments like these:

Lord, have mercy.

For our leaders, that they might be convicted to take mitigating action:

Lord, have mercy.

For our communities, that they might have zeal, courage, and imagination to build new, earth-honoring systems:

Lord, have mercy.

For our tired bodies, weary souls, and groaning planet, we pray:

Lord, have mercy.
