All are invited to join others in a Service of Lament for Gaza this coming Sat, Oct 18 from 7-8:30 pm at the RPC Meetinghouse. This service is a space to reflect, slow down, grieve and lament the ongoing genocide in Gaza.Â
Several speakers will share briefly, including Souher Fakhoury-Gonzales, the founder of the Watermelon Sisters, a volunteer-run nonprofit organization providing humanitarian aid to forcibly starved and displaced Palestinian families in Gaza. They take a holistic approach, believing that while food and water are crucial, caring for the whole person is vital. They offer virtual mental health services, on-the-ground art therapy for women, and trauma therapy for teenage girls. They believe in the healing power of joy and organize gatherings for children to play and laugh. Learn more on their website.
The evening will also feature photos of Palestinian children who have been killed, art made by Palestinian children, paintings by local artists, and songs of lament. Reah Clymer, a facilitator of Mennonite Action's Courage School, will also be present to lead some songs.
