...in case you missed the sermon this past Sun, Apr 26...
"I love the Reba Community, and hope to remain a member of it for the rest of my life. But I don't think I should be on the pastoral staff of the church for all of that time! Sometime in the latter half of 2028, I will step down from being a pastor at Reba Place Church. I do not plan to pastor someplace else, but I don't think of this as retirement from all ministry either. I expect to do more independent scholarship and writing, and more joint projects with my husband, Karl Lehman, M.D. After a possible temporary absence if needed to help a new pastoral team get established, I expect to be a regular member of the community. I am so grateful for the ways this community was a profound, life-giving influence on my life for more than 20 years before I became pastor in 2008. Being pastor for what I expect will end up being nearly 20 years has been the best and most joyful and satisfying challenge I've ever had. I am giving this long notice of my plans so that all of us can start praying about this now! And so that Pastor Laura and the Trustees and the Leadership Team have time to analyze the leadership needs, define a revised team structure and a new position or positions as part of it, and post the position for applicants to respond to. As I said, I plan to stick around as a member, so you can be assured that I remain committed to RPC's well-being and mission fulfillment now and in the days to come."
