John's Testimony: There has been much interest expressed in accessing the testimony that John gave as part of his Installation Service last week. The audio recording of this has been posted on the church website in the sermons section. Please contact Kerry in the church office if you would like a copy on CD.

Attention Families: "Talkabout" is a supplement to our Sunday School curriculum that offers an opportunity to connect church and home. Creative resources help parents and children talk about the Bible stories and apply them to their everyday lives. Content includes simple activities, conversation starters for families, brief prayers, scripture passages, Bible trivia and commentary on each week's story. It can be e-mailed or printed and delivered each week. If you would be interested in using this at home, please talk to Phyllis Bergstrom (847-424-9642) by August 8th.

Attention Sunday School Teachers: Save the Date! Sunday School Teacher training will be on Saturday, August 28th.

Prayer Chain News: If you have a confidential or emergency prayer request, please call Carol at 847-475-2933. She will be the contact person for the Prayer Chain until the end of September.

RPC FRIENDS & FAMILY

David Hovde Update: 7/22/10, A member of our team and our team's translator together came up with an idea that we are going to try out tomorrow (Friday). We have invited various individuals and families to make a particular kind of food, "dolmas" (not a Kurdish word), and travel together with us to the tent camp of displaced people that our team has worked closely with. There we will all have a picnic together. If it goes well others will be invited and we'll plan to do this routinely. Hopefully connections will be made between people in the camp and people in cities, and people in the cities will learn more about the situation in the camp. The media has also been contacted. Hopefully this will make the public more aware of the situation of the people in the camps, and also draw the government's attention to their situation. Please pray that all those participating will be blessed. Pray that the experience can lead people into new relationships and new ways of responding to the needs of the people in the camps.

The 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament is Back! The newly returned 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament and Block Party are returning to Rebaland this Saturday (July 24th) and Taka Buranda (organizer) could use your help. Starting at 9:30am various set-up needs include setting up tables, arranging street barricades and generally get things in order. Later in the day there will also be a need of grillers and others willing to help with food prep. The tournament itself starts with sign up at 11am and play starting between 11:30am and 12pm. Taka has done a lot of great work to get this off the ground, let's help him make it a great day. Contact him at (847) 571-4379 or rbpark303@gmail.com to let him know you can help, or just show up at 700 block Reba Place on Saturday morning.

Saturday Night Movies at the Clearing: Saturday, July 24, 722 Monroe, 7pm. Amazing Grace (111min). Based on actual events, this historical drama tells the story of William Wilberforce, an 18th century English politician who fought for the abolition of slavery.

Free Concert: Musician Seth Martin is passing through Chicago on his way home to Portland, Oregon. Kara, Helen, and I (also Tim, Josh, and Cynthia from Living Water) were with Seth in Detroit in June where he helped lead worship for a Mennonite retreat we participated in. We invited him to come for a visit to Reba some time. Seth will be leading us (a better word than performing) Monday night, 730 pm, July 26th, after the Monday night potluck in the Cana backyard.

Jim Fitz Presenting on Colombia: Photos and stories from his recent 2 month peace mission to Colombia will be shown at The Clearing (722 Monroe) on Wednesday, July 28th at 7:30 pm.

Help Celebrate Martha's Birthday: Martha's birthday is July 28th, and she has always been the queen of celebrations (birthdays, anniversaries, holidays). Now is our chance to return the favor. When talking with her about what she would like for her birthday, it was discerned that her greatest need and that of her family's is financial. If you would like to send a donation for the fund that her family has set up that would be awesome. Make the checks out to Dale Cooper. Their address is 1138 Fowler, Evanston, Il. 60085. Mary and Linda will be carrying Birthday cards in church for you to sign and they will cheerfully accept donations.

From Barbara: After almost 30 years in Evanston, 22 of them in the Reba Place neighborhood, I am about to head south to North Carolina to be closer to me daughter (and soon to be granddaughter!). I am deeply grateful for your prayers, your counsel and your friendship through the years. Between Reba and the Friends Meeting, Amy and I have been well cared for. Thank you (and y’all come see me!) ~Barbara.

Myth #63: Monastic life is out of touch with the world we live in: Not at Holy Wisdom Monastery, where we have built an environmentally-friendly monastery as an extension of our care for the earth. Stability in and harmony with all of God's creation are basic to Benedictine monastic life. The sisters at Holy Wisdom Monastery have recently made a bold statement of these commitments in the construction of their new, and highly awarded, monastery building. Where will this kind of bold vision take us next? With faith in God and the help of other single, Christian women who share a similar vision, we seek to continue to weave prayer, hospitality, justice and care for the earth in a shared way of life. We invite YOU to explore this way of life with us at http://benedictinewomen.org ~This is a place in Madison, WI where I have gone a few times for a retreat. Not just for women! Contact Judy B for more information 847-475-7102).

Have you heard about Chicago Friends School? We are a coeducational elementary school opening on the North Side of Chicago in the Fall of 2010, serving grades pre-kindergarten (age 4) through second grade initially, expanding to pre-k through 8. Guided by Quaker principles of peace, equality, simplicity, integrity, community, and service, we welcome children of all cultural and religious backgrounds. We seek to create an educational environment that is built on nurturing relationships, meets children's intellectual and emotional needs, and that fosters a sense of belonging, social awareness, and personal responsibility. Please enjoy perusing our website and contact us if you have further questions.

Informational seminar from MMA: A special presentation of Understanding Long-Term Care will be offered on Tuesday, August 10, 7 p.m., at Memorial Hall on the Maple Lawn Homes campus in Eureka. Light refreshments will be provided. For more information and to make a reservation by August 3, call 309-376-4312.

Cat Looking for a Good Home: From Char: A friend is moving at the end of July and needs to find a good home for her beloved cat, Abby. Abby is not used to small children so would prefer a home with adults. She is good natured and beautiful. Her fur is unusual (like rabbit fur) and somewhat hypoallergenic. I'm not as allergic to her as I am to most cats. I usually do not care about cats because of my allergy, but Abby purred her way into my heart. If you can offer Abby a home, please call me, Char, at home 847-328-0796, or at work 847-328-6066, and I'll get you in touch with my cat owner friend. Thank you.
